Race Results for May 6, 2008
It was a nice night for the opening day at Marshall Field’s Summer Season. The crowd was a buzzed for the excitement that was to come. For this was the infamous slot.it class season. Much anticipation was in the air as the drivers and their cars started showing up. As perfect the night was and excited as the crowd was the night was not going to end up the same way. For the racing Gods were confused. More on that later. But for now the excitement was building as the race was closer to starting.
In attendance were 15 racers from all over the city. The power was at 14.5 volts and the track was setup for 2 – 2.5 minute heats. This is the sprint style of racing that will be for this class for the season.
Dennis, drove all the way out from Scappoose to try his hand and his car at Marshall Field. Unfortunately, his car was too heavy and his motor got too hot, thus burning out. He did manage to run one heat and ended up with 66 laps for 15 th place, earning 5 race points.
George, The Wizard, showed up for the second heat and was running in a back up car from Racin’ Randy’s stable of cars. He had no practice and didn’t know the car. But he did manage to race to a respectable 81 laps for 14 th place, earning 6 race points.
John Bostic also stayed for only one heat and was racing a small Ferrari Le Mans car that he build and tuned up and it showed. He turned a blistering 110 laps for one heat. He ended up in 13 th place for 7 race points.
Next up was his Dad, Bill Bostic, who also only stayed for 1 heat. But for this one heat he had the fastest car of the lot. It was an HRS chassis modified to fit a unique LeMans J car. Light and fast this car took the field in the first heat. He ended up with 115 laps and earned 12 place and 8 race points.
Fearless Frank was racing on some backup cars and never having the experience of the cars and tracks ran some good laps. He ended up with 177 laps, in 11 th place and earning 9 race points.
Ageless Art brought his tuned Porsche 962 to the track to try his hand out. He had some problems on some of the turns but he ran a good race. He was strong enough to edge out Fearless Frank with 178 laps, earning 10 th place and earning 10 points.
Glenn came up next in the standings. His original car was seen in the pits being repaired, but it didn’t hold up so he went to a back up car for the remainder of the race. With all these problems, he still ended up with 189 laps for 9 th place, earning 11 race points.
Gearloose’ s car had a slower motor in it and even though his driving skill was top notch his car was just not fast enough for this fast field of slot.it LeMans cars. He ended up with 189 laps, tied with Glenn but just outdistancing him, in 8 th place earning 12 race points.
Racin’ Randy, who was 3 rd after the first heat, with a heavy magnet car, had some serious trouble in the 2 nd heat as he took out one of the magnets and had brush problems. He dropped down in the 2 nd heat, racing to 210 laps, but earning 7 th place and gaining 13 points in the series.
John Gill got his car rocking but it wasn’t enough as some of the top cars were just hotter at this point. He raced a good race and ended up just edging out Racin’ Randy with 211 laps. He earned 6 th place with 14 race points.
AJ, the Speedster, was at it again with a hot LeMans car. He made up 4 laps on his 2 nd heat and ended up with just edging out John Gill with 212 laps. He placed 5 th earning 15 race points.
But his Dad, Rico, picked up strongly in his 2 nd heat to gain 3 more laps than the Speedster. Ending up with 215 laps and cruising into 4 th place with 16 race points.
Byron found his stride in the 2 nd heat. He gained 10 more laps than his first heat and ran some blistering lap times to gain a podium spot with 216 laps, just edging out Rico. He finished in 3 rd place earning 17 race points.
Monte’s tuned suspension, his sidewinder motor setup, and his HRS chassis was a proven winner tonight. Plus his driving skill improvements for the night earned him the 2 nd position for 18 race points with 220 laps.
But the man of the hour, who has been burned a few past times, and racing a basically stock racecar was Flying Bryan. And he was flying and consistent. Always quiet but blasting to a consistent 113 laps both heats, Flying Bryan took top honors tonight with 226 laps, earning the full 20 race points and taking the series lead early in the season. Great job, Flying Bryan.
Remember racers, there are 11 races and the top 8 will be counted. Thanks to all for coming out. Next race is May 27, 2008. Open play day is May 18, 2008
The weather was pleasant for tonight’s race. The main stadium doors stayed open and the heaters were off. One could tell summer was coming. Another big crowd showed up to race at Marshall Field. After a 3-week hiatus, the racers were ready to make a go of it.
The new rules were in effect and all seemed to be a peace with them. Dennis and Monte were our first tech inspectors and they did a fantastic job making sure all the cars were legal. Only 1 car was deemed illegal but that racer was not denied a racing spot.
A new lap counting program was brought in and proved to be a welcome relief from the one we used the last race. Glenn was busy getting it soldered up for future fuel and tire management.
Tonight’s race felt like a re-opening of the summer season and the racers were anxious to try out their improvements.
Fearless Frank came out with his car and raced some great laps. Frank is a great car builder and was seen talking shop with some of the other great car builders that showed up. He raced to 155 laps and finished in 13 th place earning 7 race points.
Jack, the rookie for the night, made his first race appearance at Marshall Field. He brought out a dark and sleek race car. He was a little shaky at first but soon settled down and did some great racing. He race to 164 laps, finishing in 12 th place and earned 8 race points.
Glenn, The G Man, brought out 2 cars and raced them both tonight. He ran some good laps too but his cars were just up to the speed of the other cars. He finished with a respectable 11 place racing to 183 laps earning 9 race points.
Byron, the Karate Kid, had all sorts of car troubles tonight. During practice and during the last race his car was well tuned and ready to rumble. As soon as he got on the track, the car starting shorting out and he was seen pulling the car off the track for repairs. He used a back up car during the last heat of the first round and then ended up settling down for the 2 nd round. He raced to 10 th place with 183 points earning 10 race points, just nosing out Glenn.
Ageless Art squeaked out 1 more lap than Byron and Glenn and raced his orange 962 to some great runs. He did a consistent race between the 2 rounds and ended up in 9 th place with 184 laps. He earned 11 race points.
Dennis did his best racing in the 2 nd round racing to 5 more laps than his first. He ran some very solid laps and raced to 191 laps for 8 th place. He earned 12 race points.
John Bostic was running his small and quick Ferrari. But John decided to put a DVD player in his car for tonight’s race and was seen stopping along the track to watch some movies. I guess when you have this much fun something has to suffer. Most of his movie watching came in the 2 nd round and he raced to 221 laps for 7 th place earning 13 race points.
AJ, Speedster, also did some great improvement from his first round to his second by increasing to 9 more laps. He was seen to have some car problems and this would account for the slower laps in the first round. He raced to 223 laps for 6 th place earning 12 race points.
Rico, his Dad, best him with 2 very consistent rounds. His car suffered some break down during the race with his front axles breaking and tires and wheels were seen careering down the track. Did this stop Rico, no; he drove through it without a slow down. He raced to 232 laps ending in 5 th place and earning 15 race points.
Flying Bryan was just edged out of 3 rd place by about 7 feet. He was the last to get his car teched in as it was having some problems in the warm-ups. I don’t think he felt it was up to the level of the last race, which he won. But his great driving skill increased his total laps from the first round to the 2 nd by 4 laps. Remember, his car is basically a stock car. The motor is stock too. Flying Bryan race to 234 laps for 4 th place earning 16 race points.
Racin’ Randy started out a little shaky in the first round but settled down in the second round by improving 6 laps over his first round run. Crashing only 1 time in all four lanes in the second round really paid off for Randy. He raced to 234 laps, edging out Flying Bryan by about 7 feet, ended up in 3 rd place earning 17 race points.
Timba did a fantastic race and even improved in the second round by 5 laps. He had the fastest lap times of the night getting down to 4.2 seconds. His car was screaming and his skills were vastly improved. He earned a well-respected 2 nd place with 237 laps and adding 18 race points to his totals.
Screaming out in front of the pack and with the car to beat is Monte, the Big Smooth. And boy was he smooth tonight. Nobody could catch him and with his 2 nd place finish from last race, Monte is the man to beat. He raced to a whopping 244 laps for 1 st place earning the full 20 points. Congratulations to Monte, The Big Smooth.
Worthy note: Bill’s car didn’t past tech inspection but he ran a great race. His total of 243 laps was only 1 behind Monte and was the main competitor for Monte tonight.

Race Results for June 10, 2008
The weather was cool and calm for the race on June 10, 2008. We had 11 racers show up to race for our first fuel/tire race management race at Marshall Field Raceway.
Tonight’s race was going to be different. First the procedure was changed to allow a racer to take either round for their total score instead of combining them together. And second the new fuel and tire race management program was now operational.
The racers got in a good amount of practice and all cars past tech inspection. So now it was time to learn the race management system. All explanations and questions were discussed and the racers were ready to try out their skills at Marshall Field Raceway.
Jack came out with some great looking cars that he put together for tonight’s race and he look ready to rumble. But immediately he had some serious car troubles and couldn’t get it going. He then drove one of Randy’s backup cars and managed to put together a very respectable 67 laps for 11 th place and earning 9 race points.
Fearless Frank managed to get out for only the second round and missed the practice. So he came in cold and had to learn the race management system cold too. But he managed to pull it off, as he found it not too difficult. He raced to 10 th place with 75 laps conquered and earned 10 race points.
Dennis came out with his slightly modified ultra cool looking Le Mans car. He did have some problems early on but managed to drive a consistent 78 laps for 9 th place thus earning 11 race points.
Next up was the dependable and always funny Ageless Art. His car was tuned very well for tonight’s race but at times got out of control. Art improved his skill tonight and only managed to miss a few laps due to running out of gas and having flat tires. He ended up racing to 89 laps for 8 th place earning 12 race points.
A new comer came out tonight and going into the track and race management system very cold, he managed to do very well. Squeak raced to 92 laps for 7 th place earning his first 13 race points.
This week brought back Gearloose, who missed last race, with a new hot motor. He raced exactly the same amount of laps in the first round as the second round. Gearloose’ s very consistent 94 laps earned him 6 th place and 14 race points.
Jumping up 10 laps and racing a new modified Ferrari was Racin’ Randy. He really had no problems but just couldn’t keep up with the leaders. He raced to 104 laps and ended up to 5 th place earning 15 race points.
Timba continued to be a hot ticket at the Marshall Field Summer Season race season. He vastly improved in the 2 nd round and raced to 107 laps, coming in 4 th place earning 16 race points.
The Karate Kid, Byron, came out with a hot black car. Man this car was really fast. He made the podium again with a strong 3 rd place finish at 109 laps. He earned 17 race points.
Now comes the upset. As we left the race, because of the operator error, Monte, The Big Smooth, seemed to be the night’s winner after adding up his 1 st round laps. But upon checking and double-checking the results, it was found that Monte indeed came in 2 nd with 110 laps. He earned 18 race points.
That makes the night’s winner, Flyin’ Bryan. Upon checking the results very carefully, Flyin’ Bryan managed to pull out the win in the 1 st round with 111 laps. He earned the top prize of 20 race points. Congratulations Flyin’ Bryan.
Much discussion and comments were discussed at the end of the race with the fuel/tire management system. A vote was taken and only a couple of racers wanted to not do it again, but the majority seemed to be ok with the system and would like to do it for the next race as most felt the learning curve was breached. Some other suggestions were discussed and another vote will be taken at the start of the next race.
So, as it stands for now, I am proposing to do these following changes for the next race.
1 – Keep the best of 2 rounds.
2 – Only use the fuel management and not the tire management system for now.
3 – Up the race time to 3 minutes per heat.
Remember, this Saturday is an open race day so if you want some practice, come on out from 12pm to 3pm.
Thanks to all for racing at Marshall Field Raceway. Till the next time and “just for the fun of it”.
Hello race fans. Here are the results from 6-24-08. It was a warm night at Marshall Field Raceway with 12 racers showing up to another Summer Season race.
Dennis has volunteered to be the main tech inspector, so now we only will assign one person to help him. He did a great job with the tech inspections and we thank him for taking on this responsibility.
The fuel management program has been redesigned and there is now a bigger display and it is easier to read. Plus, additional monitors have been set up. We now have 5 monitors set up with 1 more to go. Now you can really see what his going on.
The format for tonight’s race was changed. The heats are now 3 minutes long and the racers were grouped together according to skill levels. With 12 people we had 3 even groups of racers. All racers were run through their heats and the totals were taken from the better of the 2 rounds.
In the “C” Mains were Art, Steve, Frank, and Dennis.
Fearless Frank is starting to get the track down better and is constantly improving. He is always a pleasure to have out and is seen to have lots of fun. He ended up in 12th place with 111 laps and earned 8 race points.
Dennis didn’t get much practice in because of his duties as the tech inspector. So he was a little off. But his car seems tuned up really nice and raced to 118 laps for 11 th place and earned 9 race points.
Art had a good showing tonight but was seen voicing his displeasure on some tough corners. And his pit stops were somewhat short but this was in his plans, I am sure. All in all, Ageless Art ran 120 laps for 10 th place and earned 10 race points.
Gearloose, as always, ran a good race but his car didn’t have the proper gearing. He was very consistent with 120 laps in the first round and 121 laps in the second round. This earned him 9 th place and 11 race points.
Tonight we saw the return of Stevie Blunder. This was his first race and he found himself behind the curve in the car development stage. His skills are good enough but after tonight I can expect to Steve return with a better car. He did win the “C” mains for 8 th place overall with 126 laps and earning 12 race points.
For the “B” Mains group there was Randy, AJ, Rico, and Gearloose.
AJ, The Speedster, definitely had a fast car tonight. How do I know? Well I couldn’t catch him and most others too. But some crashes and learning the fuel management system kept him down in 7 th place with 127 laps. He earned 13 race points.
Just one up from AJ was his Dad, Rico. Rico too had a great car and was seen flying around the racecourse but learning the fuel management system and some crashes put him in 6 th place with 128 laps earning 14 race points.
Racin’ Randy had a terrible first round with 114 laps. He was seen crashing all over the place and had to switch out cars in this first round as his car was seen to be very inconsistent. One of his cars didn’t even past tech inspection too. So he pulled out his backup and managed to get some good laps in for the 2 nd round. He raced to 130 laps and 5 th place earning 15 race points. He did manage to win the “B” mains.
In the “A” mains were Timba, Byron, Monte, and Bryan.
Tying Racin’ Randy but being just a few feet ahead of him was Timba. Timba had some crashes that slowed him down a little. But his car is tuned and race ready. Timba raced to 130 laps for 4 th place earning 16 race points.
Now for the podium winners. The Karate Kid, Byron, didn’t really like his car all night. Shame to not like your car but still get 3 rd place. Can’t wait till he finds one he likes. Byron raced to 134 laps earning 17 race points.
Flyin’ Bryan just got nosed out by the Big Smooth. And yes he earned his nickname again. Man, does this guy have the track wired. His car was flawless tonight and his skill was superb. Flyin’ Bryan ran a blistering 142 laps for 2 nd place and earned 18 race points.
And the man of the night was The Big Smooth, Monte. Can anybody beat this guy? His Ferrari is a highly tuned racecar and boy you get the feeling he is really hangin on to this baby. He flew by all competitors, except Flyin’ Bryan, and ran it right down to the wire to pull out another win. He turned 143 laps earning the full 20 points. Congrats, Big Smoooooth.
Thanks to all for coming out. It was a great night!!!
Next race is in 2 weeks.
Race Results for July 10, 2008
Ahh, the summer is upon us and racing is hot and heavy at Marshall Field Raceway. We had 15 racers show up to the races for the race.
The slot.it class is proving to be an extremely fast class of racing and the racers are getting the cars not just tuned but “super tuned”.
We had one new racer out tonight and the Ethan, Squeak’s son who is now called Jack. This was his first time out and not only did he have to learn about the track but the fuel management and the monitor placements. And of course the cars. So all in all he did a fine job for his first time and raced to 78 laps for 15 th place earned his first 5 points for the summer series.
Almost breaking the 3 digit barrier and still considered in the rookie class was Jack Attack. He had a nice car and is now getting the hang of the track. It did have some break down problems but Jack Attack did a good job tonight. He ended up in 14 th place with 99 laps and earned 6 race points.
Also out for the first time in the summer season but not the first time overall was Sweet Victoria. She did manage to break the 3-digit barrier with 100 laps even. Her car is a beautiful Ferrari and ran very well. Victoria ended up in 13 place and earned 7 race points.
Squeak has only been out a few times and I think it was the first time with the fuel management. So the learning curve was greater than most. His quiet and concentrated effort had him running 111 laps just behind some top racers for 12 place earning 8 race points.
AJ Speedster had some serious car troubles and he too is getting used to the fuel management system so he was off his usual high speed racing skill tonight. He did improve by 3 laps from the first round to the second and ended up with 116 laps for 11 th place and 9 race points.
The Wizard, George had only been out one other time and was using a back, back up car. He had not raced with the fuel management but did a very good job racing. Plus, George had one of the best improvements from the first round to the 2 nd round by improving a whopping 18 laps. He ended up with 117 laps for 10 th place and 10 race points.
Gearloose was heard voicing disapproval with his car and that must be the only reason this great racer was held down tonight. He did show a good consistency with his driving skill and ended up with 119 laps for 9 th place and 11 race points.
Cheetos Man Charlie may have a new nickname after tonight’s race to “Wild Man Charlie”. He was driving Flyin’ Bryan’s back up car, a proven winner at Marshall Field Raceway. And this baby was seen flyin’ all over the track. It was wicked fast and Charlie did an interesting job driving it. He ended up with 119 laps, just edging out Gearloose for 8 th place and earning 12 race points.
Ageless Art had his car dialed in and with no swear words and good skill driving he had a very fine finish at 7 th place with 121 laps and earned 13 race points. Good job Art.
Monte, The Big Smooth, was in the experimental phase tonight. He did not race his famously fast Ferrari for the whole race. There were a few too many crashes for The Big Smooth but he did a very good job especially in the 2 nd round improving by 9 more laps to 135 laps for 6 th place and earning 14 race points.
Rico also ended up with 135 laps but just edged out The Big Smooth. Still not completely comfortable with the fuel management, he did a very good job by scoring in 5 th place earning 15 race points.
For one of the few times off of the podium, Timba got bumped down to 4 th place. I think this is the first time in at least the last 3 races for Timba. He experienced car troubles in the 1 st round but got it all working and ran a fast 139 laps for 16 race points.
Byron, The Karate Kid, duplicated his last race with a 3 rd place finish. He had his car “super tuned” and was one of the top 5 racers to not race a Ferrari. So yes, it can be done without one. He ran some blistering laps and ended up with 144 laps earning 17 race points.
Tying The Karate Kid and not being on the podium in quite awhile was Racin’ Randy. But with only a ¾ lap lead over Byron, Racin’ Randy managed to squeak into 2 nd place with 144 laps earning 18 race points.
And back on the top after being bumped off last week was Flyin’ Bryan. His Ferrari is on steroids or something because it was screaming everywhere. Now you take something this fast and mix it with one of the best skilled racers I have ever seen and you end up with unbelievable lap times. Him and Byron were the only two who averaged for the whole race under 4 seconds a lap. Flyin’ Bryan blew the field away with 156 laps for 1 st place and earning the whole enchilada, 20 race points. Great job Bryan.
